Prolotherapy originated in the late 1930s. Dr Earl Gedney, an osteopathic physician in Philadelphia, was the first to use an injection to strengthen sacroiliac ligaments and termed it Sclerotherapy. In the 1950’s it was renamed Prolotherapy, and recently has become known also as Regenerative Injection Therapy and Ligament Strengthening Injections.
